Frequently asked
What people ask before they hire us.
- Who actually runs Roberts Construction?
- DJ Roberts and his son Trevor Roberts. DJ has 28+ years in construction; Trevor came up through the trades and runs alongside him today. When you call the company, you're talking to one of them — there's no answering service or call-center layer between the owner and the crew on the site.
- Where are you based?
- Sterling, Connecticut — eastern CT, on the Rhode Island line. Our service area is most of eastern Connecticut, western Rhode Island, and parts of central Massachusetts. We have 15 town-specific pages with the geology, permits, and conditions we know about each.
- Are you licensed in Connecticut?
- Yes. Roberts Construction holds Connecticut New Home Construction Contractor license NHC.0014110, issued by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection. We carry general liability and workers' compensation on every job.
- Why family-run rather than a bigger contractor?
- Two reasons. First, we want the crew on the site to be people we know — that's hard to maintain at scale. Second, every job has one owner-level person making the decisions, which means accountability is clear when something goes sideways. The work and the relationships compound when nobody's playing telephone.
- What kind of clients do you work with?
- Homeowners, farmers, horse-farm operators, small commercial property owners, and other contractors who need excavation, building, welding, or equine facility work. About 70% residential, 20% agricultural/equine, 10% small commercial. We don't chase work outside our service area or outside our crews' capability.
